How to earn money online in Pakistan

By the Hunarzai team. Facts checked 3 October 2026.

The short answer

The reliable way to earn money online in Pakistan is to sell a skill or a product: freelancing on sites like Fiverr and Upwork, teaching or tutoring online, selling products online, or creating content. Each one takes time to learn and time to win your first customer. Apps that pay you to watch ads or ask you to pay a joining fee are not a safe way to earn.

First, the honest part

Searches like "Rs 1,000 per day" or "earning app" lead to a lot of promises. There is no reliable shortcut. Real online income comes from doing work someone pays for, and the first payment usually takes longer than people expect.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has warned the public to avoid Ponzi and pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing and other online schemes that promise high returns. If an app's main way of earning is recruiting other people, walk away.

1. Freelancing

You sell a service to clients in Pakistan or abroad. Common services on freelance platforms include graphic design, video editing, writing, web development and digital marketing.

The best-known platforms are Fiverr and Upwork. Both take a fee from what you earn. Upwork's freelancer service fee is between 0% and 15%, depending on the contract. Check Fiverr's current seller fee in its help centre before you set your prices.

2. Teaching and tutoring online

If you know a subject or a skill well, you can tutor students online or create your own course. A course takes work up front, but the same lessons can be sold many times. On Hunarzai, joining as a teacher is free and you keep 90% of every sale from your own link. See Teach on Hunarzai.

3. Selling online

You can sell on marketplaces such as Daraz, run your own store, or sell through WhatsApp and Instagram. You need a product, honest photos and descriptions, and a reliable way to deliver. Learn how: Daraz selling, Shopify stores, selling on WhatsApp and Instagram.

4. Content creation

YouTube, TikTok and Instagram can pay through ads, sponsors or your own products, but usually only after you have built an audience. Treat it as a long-term project, not quick income. Learn how: YouTube and content creation.

How payments reach you in Pakistan

  • Fiverr lists these payout methods: bank transfer (via Payoneer) and a Payoneer account, among others. Fiverr notes that each method may have location restrictions, so confirm with the provider that it works for Pakistan.
  • Upwork and other platforms: check their help centre for the withdrawal methods available in Pakistan before you start.
  • Hunarzai pays teachers by JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer, twice a month.
  • Register if you work in IT. The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) runs a freelancer registration programme.
  • Tax. Online income can be taxable. Keep records of what you earn and ask a tax adviser how it applies to you.

Red flags: how to spot a scam

  • You must pay a "registration" or "joining" fee before you can earn.
  • You earn by watching ads, liking videos or doing simple daily tasks.
  • It promises a fixed daily income.
  • You earn mainly by bringing in friends who also pay.
  • Someone asks for your OTP, passwords or bank PIN.

A 30-day starter plan

  1. Week 1: choose one skill you can learn or already have. Look at what sellers on freelance platforms offer for it.
  2. Week 2: learn the basics and make 2 or 3 sample pieces.
  3. Week 3: create one profile on one platform, with your samples, a clear title and an honest description.
  4. Week 4: send proposals for suitable projects or message potential clients every day, and improve your profile from what you learn.

This is a plan for getting started, not a promise of income. How long the first client takes varies from person to person.

Questions people ask

Can I earn money online in Pakistan without investment?

You can start for free on most freelance platforms, but you invest time learning a skill and making samples. Your basic costs are a phone or computer and internet. Be careful of anyone who asks for a joining fee.

How can I earn Rs 1,000 a day online?

There is no reliable way to promise a daily amount. What you earn from freelancing, teaching or selling depends on your skill, your customers and your time. Treat any app that promises a fixed daily amount as a warning sign.

Is online earning legal in Pakistan?

Yes, earning from real work for clients is legal. Keep records of your income for tax, and if you work in IT you can register as a freelancer with PSEB.

Can students earn money online?

Yes, through skills like design, writing or tutoring younger students. Check each platform's minimum age in its terms before you sign up.

Which skill should I learn first?

Pick one you enjoy and can practise every day. Common starting skills are graphic design, video editing, writing and digital marketing, because you can show samples of your work.
